This year I have a personal goal to do more writing “play”, and so I’m creating weekly prompts for myself which I’ll also share online, in case you’d like to join me. Teachers, you’re welcome to have your classes write with me too! I’m calling this practice Writing Prompt Wednesday and will post the prompts on my website, Instagram, Blue Sky, and Substack.1
The other day I finished listening to the memoir Be Ready When the Luck Happens by Ina Garten. It’s a great listen! She narrates, and I find her voice so calming, and what she shares about her life and business was fascinating. I loved learning about how methodical she is with testing her recipes and making sure they work for the home cook— especially someone like me, who wants to make yummy food, but maybe doesn’t love cooking as much as she does. And the evolution of her career as a whole, especially given how it spans a time when women didn’t have as many rights and weren’t taken as seriously as they are now, was really interesting.
Because I have food on my mind, thanks to Ina Garten, here is a food-related prompt for this week:
You can find previous prompts and my responses here.
If you want to receive all Writing Prompt Wednesday posts in your email, subscribe to my newsletter/Substack and click on the link to manage your subscription. There you should see a Notifications section and you can turn on/off which emails you’d like to get from me. Reach out if you have questions—I’m happy to help! Your questions also help me understand what’s working/not working with Substack, as I’m still getting the hang of things here.
I just finished her book and loved it too!
Thanks for the prompt! I'm eating A LOT of grilled cheese and soups and I know it's bc it's so cold in New Hampshire right now. When the summer comes, I will be drawn to garden tomatoes, yogurt and fruit. And ice-cream of course :) Now I'm thinking of how I can write about it...
I've heard a lot about Ina's book and just requested it through my Libby app - thank you!
