Writing Prompt Wednesday #3
Plus a Kidlit Auction to Raise Money for Wildfire Relief in LA
This year I have a personal goal to do more writing “play”, and so I’m creating weekly prompts for myself which I’ll also share online, in case you’d like to join me. Teachers, you’re welcome to have your classes write with me too! I’m calling this practice Writing Prompt Wednesday and will post the prompts on my website, Instagram, Blue Sky, and Substack.1
I’ll also be sharing my own response and additional thoughts on the exercise with paid subscribers later in the week. I hope you’ll join me, and if you do, I’d love to hear how the prompts works for you. If you post your prompt response somewhere publicly online, feel free to link it in the comments for others to read.
Here is Prompt #3:

Kidlit for LA Auction
This week I’m participating in the Kidlit for LA Auction to raise funds for wildfire relief. I’m donating a critique of the first five chapters of your middle-grade novel. You can bid on my item here, or browse through over 340 more items being offered! The auction closes January 26 at 9:00PM PST.
If you subscribe to my newsletter, that is the same as my Substack. I send out a monthly-ish newsletter (Letters From Jenn) that is emailed to all subscribers. Writing Prompt Wednesday posts will always be on the Substack site itself, but I won’t be emailing every post to subscribers, so I don’t overwhelm those of you who aren’t interested in them. Today’s post is being emailed to all newsletter subscribers, but future ones will only go to those who opt-in to the Writing Prompt Wednesday posts, unless I have other important info to share, like today’s Kidlit Auction.
If you want to make sure you receive all Writing Prompt Wednesday posts in your email, visit my Substack page and click on the link to manage your subscription. There you should see a Notifications section and you can turn on/off which emails you’d like to get from me. Reach out if you have questions—I’m happy to help! Your questions also help me understand what’s working/not working with Substack, as I’m still getting the hang of things here.
